The material science journal Optical Materials Express announced that Christian Haffner, a member of the IEF, is awarded the annual best paper from an emerging researcher prize. The paper “Harnessing nonlinearities near material absorption resonances for reducing losses in plasmonic modulators,” by Haffner, Heni, et al., triggered a paradigm change for designing organic electro-optic (OEO) materials. Prior to their work chemist were restricted to synthesized OEO that feature low optical losses. Now, chemist can are no longer restricted by loss. This opens the path to synthesis record OEO materials, which feature a threefold stronger electro-optic effect.
